Are all patients suitable for this surgery?

No. Prostate cancer is a relatively slow growing cancer - hence only patients in reasonable health and life expectancy would benefit from surgery.

What are the alternatives to having this surgery?

Other non-surgical alternatives are available. This include hormonal and radiotherapy.

Is this operation the best choice?

You will need to discuss this with your surgeon.

How often do I need to see my urologists after surgery?

Your first appointment will be in 10-14 days for removal of the urinary catheter. Following this, the next appointment would be in 6-8 weeks after surgery.

When can I restart my blood thinning medication after surgery?

Usually in 2 weeks but this depends on the surgeon

What if I am in pain when i wake up?

You will be given a range of pain killers by your doctors. A common and effective way of pain control is via "Patient Controlled Analgesia" (PCA) - where you push a button everytime you feel pain to have some pain killer delivered to you (refer to Gallery)
